TPCBC Ministry Updates June 14, 2020
This Weekend @ TPCBC
His Grace Is Sufficient!
“Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:2 (KJV)
Stewardship. It’s the “responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving’ (Dictionary.com). Additionally, it is “the management of property by a servant on behalf of its owner” (The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church). It’s a term with enormous implications and multi-faceted application. The steward always is held accountable to the rightful owner and will give an account of his/her stewardship at an appointed time. You can find a great example of this in Matthew 25:14-31.
Parents are stewards of their children. Teachers have stewardship responsibility with their students. Banks and financial institutions are stewards over our money. Shepherds exercise stewardship of God’s church. Each of us are stewards of God’s earth. We also are stewards of our time, energy, and free will. God has given us charge over our health, wealth, and relationships. Perhaps the most significant stewardship responsibility everyone has is that over his or her own mind. Staying on guard as the custodian and curator of our “thought life” is a monumental task.
Both services tomorrow promise to encourage the worshiper and exalt the Savior. During the 11:00 a.m. worship service, however, we will give particular attention to and appreciation for the stewardship of scholarship within our congregation. From Elementary Schools to Graduate Schools, we plan to celebrate the accomplishments of those who have exercised faithful oversight of their academic opportunities and obstacles. We are looking forward to receiving God's Word for that hour, which will be delivered by Minister Barbara Florvil, a dynamic young servant of God from the Alfred Street Baptist Chruch in Alexandria, VA.
An exceptional tribute was given to Dr. J. P. Baltimore by his son, Pastor Thomas Jeremiah Baltimore when he and his brother, Deacon Phillip Baltimore, established at The People’s Community Baptist Church a scholarship in his honor. This scholarship ensures that every young person affiliated with this congregation who desires to pursue higher education will be provided funds to help make that dream a reality. Commitments of $1500, once again, will be made to each scholarship recipient, for their use during the upcoming academic year. We are proud of each student being promoted to the next level of study and congratulate them all for their accomplishments. We particularly pay tribute to the Class of 2020 which triumphantly has engaged and endured unprecedented challenges. And we remind them that “God causes all things to work for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
In the midst of celebration, we cannot overlook or overstate the importance of seizing the present God-given opportunity to be primary movers for the implementation of long-overdue changes in our nation and to inspire the same within other countries around the world. One of the many ways you may do this is to register for the Prayer Walk for Peace & Justice, sponsored by the Alfred Street Baptist Church (Dr. Howard-John Wesley, Pastor) in collaboration with the NAACP (Mr. Derrick Johnson, President). It is scheduled from 6:00 a.m. – 8:10 a.m. tomorrow morning, June 14, 2020. Register at alfredstreet.org.
Let us be prayerful for the following families: Deaconess Janice Gonzalez, in the homegoing of her son, Adam; Bro. Joseph Randolph in the loss of his grandson, Darius; Sis. Michelle Rutledge in the passing of her Aunt, Mary Lou; Sis. Octavia Gudgen in the loss of her godfather, Adam; and Bro. Oliver Mitchell in the passing of his wife, Florence. Additionally, let’s pray for Sis. Velma Buckner and family in the homegoing of her husband and past Deacon within our fellowship, Deacon Donald Buckner. Pastor Donald Kelly and The Olive Branch Community Church will forward arrangements to us when they are completed.
In closing, the story is told of a man who was arrested for stealing a loaf of bread. Upon investigation of the matter, the judge discovered that the man was out of work, had a family that was hungry and had applied for work at several companies, to no avail. The judge said to the man, “While I understand the misfortune you were facing, the fact is that you broke the law and therefore, must be found guilty. I fine you $10.” “But,” he went on to say, “I want to pay it for you.” So, he took the money out of his pocket and gave it to the man. Then, he said, “I hereby remit the fine of $10,” which meant that the man could keep the $10 he had just received. Finally, the judge said, “I am fining everyone in this courtroom $.50 for living in a town where a man feels he needs to steal just to put food on his family’s table.” So, he sent the bailiff to collect the money in a hat and had it given to the defendant.
Like the judge, our God is just, merciful and full of grace. We see these qualities not only in this story but even more so in our own story. Through the Scriptures, we are privileged to see God’s heart and hands stretched toward the hurting, hungry, homeless, helpless, and hopeless. May He help us to see the high value that He sees in our brothers and sisters. And, may He help you, my friend, to recognize and revel in the high value He sees in you. As Apostle Paul penned, “But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8 CSB).
Because You Matter to God, I remain …

TPCBC Ministry Updates June 7, 2020
This Weekend @ TPCBC
His Grace Is Sufficient!
Hear my cry, O God, attend unto my cry.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee,
When my heart is overwhelmed,
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Psalm 61:1-2
CONFUSION
Despicable. Disgraceful. Dehumanizing. Irrational. Irreverent. Irresponsible. These are just a few gentle descriptions of the behaviors paraded before the world from within our borders over the past days and weeks. Overwhelmed. Outraged. Overlooked. Wounded. Weary. Anxious. Angry. Traumatized. Thankful. Who has not been affected by what we’ve seen, and heard? Indeed, a smorgasbord of emotions has rattled many of us, inside and out. Like the psalmist, we cry out to God for assistance. He is far higher than we are. His thoughts and ways also are higher than ours. (Isiah 55:8)
COMMUNION
What a perfect time to stop by the Table, the Lord’s Table, that is. Once seated at this Table, we see humanity’s vile, venomous and violent will juxtaposed with God’s missional, merciful and miraculous work. Poignantly, we are reminded that “there is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul.” Our quest to acknowledge, address and alter our fallen, fractured and failed social constructs is futile. At this table, we are compelled to remember that long ago God took painful steps to unify us and reconcile us to Himself (Eph.2:16). In the premeditated exploitation, execution, and ultimate exaltation of Jesus Christ we find help, hope and healing.
We will be observing Communion during both our 7:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services. Each service will be Live Streamed from the sanctuary on our website (www.tpcbc.org) and via FaceBook Live. Be sure to set aside (sanctify) the elements you would like to use at home to represent the sacred body and blood of our Savior. As the song writer penned, “Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary...,” take time to prepare yourself for our special time of worship together.
COMPASSION
Each week different members of our fellowship are met with the unwelcomed news of loved ones who have slipped into eternity. Included in that number this week are Sisters Stacey Ward (nephew), Patricia Harris (cousin) and Emeline Tatah (father). Because the Table also points us toward a perpetual future with Christ, a measure of consolation is offered to them through the promise of reunion with believing family when Christ returns.
COMMUNITY
Beloved, make every effort to stay connected by taking advantage of the many means available to us today. The best of these still is prayer! Praying for you and yours, I remain,
Your Kingdom Companion,

TPCBC Ministry Updates May 17, 2020
His Grace Is Sufficient!
“Safe!,” the umpire signals with arms out stretched like a bird about to take flight. And the home team fills the stadium with shouts of jubilation! We’ve seen it. We’ve heard it. We’ve done it. For some of us, we’ve even caused it. Well, God’s caused it again. Here we come to the close of another week and the majority of us can holler, “Safe!” The 18th century clergyman, John Newton penned it this way, “Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come. ‘Twas grace that brought me safe thus far; and grace will lead me home.” Tomorrow morning, we get to raise the roofs together because God kept us. Despite seen and unseen dangers, trials, troubles and temptations, He kept us. In spite of our faults and failures, God kept us.
Join me at 7:45 a.m. and/or 11:00 a.m. prepared to stretch out your hands and declare before the Lord: “Safe!” “Sealed!” “Sheltered!” “Satisfied!” … and the list goes on. While some Marylanders will begin regathering for worship in the morning, we will continue to stay the present course, until the Lord has given us clear marching orders. Indoor and outdoor services planned for 31 Norwood Road will be publicized in advance of the dates scheduled. Since Sunday, May 31st is Pentecost Sunday, it would be great if we could plan that 11:00 a.m. service to be outdoors. We will let you know for sure.
As the “scattered” Church prepares to reconvene as the “gathered” Church, there is much for our “Transition Team” to discuss, discover, discern, decide and disseminate to you. The team includes representation from the congregation-at-large and the following ministries: the Diaconate (men and women), Trustees, Kid Connections, Youth Connections, Young Adults (L.I.T.), Seniors, Christian Education, Community Engagement (formerly Social Action), Ministers, Media, Worship (Music, Ushers, Nurses, Security), Wellness, Facilities, Administration, and Communications. Your prayers are critical for us to enjoy a favorable process and product. I know we can count on you!!
Just a few reminders:
Finally, “Corona Valley” has been a tough place for people all over the world. It’s been a dry, desert place. When the children of Israel came, “Straight Outta Egypt,” they found themselves in a difficult place. There was no drinkable water. They complained to Moses. He appealed to God for assistance. God used that moment as an opportunity to establish what The Voice* calls “an important principle” (Ex. 15:25). “If you will listen closely to My voice – the voice of your God – and do what is right in My eyes, pay attention to My instructions, and keep all of My laws; then I will not bring on you any of the plagues that I did on the Egyptians, for I am the Eternal, your Healer” (v. 26).
But, what comes next I find really exciting. “Then they traveled on to an oasis called Elim, where," -"now get this" - “there were 12 freshwater springs and 70 palm trees with dates. They set up camp there next to the waters” (v. 27). If we ask Him and trust Him, God will provide for us, “an oasis in the desert!” They thought they were “out;” but, the Eternal God stretched out His arms, signaling, as He did with the Passover and at the Red Sea, “… Safe!” Don’t save your shout for tomorrow. You might as well get it in now.
Listen, have a great night of rest and restoration. Until morning, I remain …

Just a few reminders:
- the memorization of Ephesians by December 31st still is our aim. Hide in your heart the verses assigned to your Tribal Family and help us emerge triumphant on that glorious day.
- Continue to pray for one another, especially those whose work exposes them to higher risk during this environment of COVID-19.
- Similarly, those grieving the loss of loved ones and those managing illness continue to benefit from our prayers.
- As you and many other congregants continue to prove faithful in the area of financial stewardship, for which we are extremely grateful and God is glorified, remember that we are maintaining our quest for Mortgage Liquidation by the end of the year.

His Grace Is Sufficient!
For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth over and around us lies.
Christ, our Lord, to you we raise this, our hymn of grateful praise.
(Folliott S. Pierpoint)
These wonderful lyrics, penned nearly two hundred years ago, remind us of the innumerable sources from which worship can be sparked within our hearts, toward our God and Savior. Truly, the earth is the Lord’s and its fullness! Tomorrow, we plan to assemble under the canopy of those glorious skies, to enjoy the surrounding beauty and extol the endearing and enduring love of God, as best displayed in the sacrifice of His dear Son for us.
We are happy to announce that beginning Wednesday, May 6, 2020, we will serve as a food distribution site for Nourish Now (www.nourishnow.org) to provide weekly pre-boxed meals for individuals and families of four. Our Community Engagement Ministry, under the leadership of Deaconess Jackie Dennard, SocialAction@tpcbc.org, is coordinating this partnership. Please contact her or visit the website for more information.
While many are at home practicing social distancing, many of our family and friends are on the front lines of the battle against COVID -19. We are requesting photos of congregation members, friends, and loved ones working through the coronavirus pandemic. Be sure to include health care workers, grocery store clerks, city and town services employees, police officers, cleaners, caretakers, and anyone serving people. We want to highlight them by posting an extraordinary pictorial collage as a special thank you! Send pictures [Jpeg, Gif only], words of thanks [20 words or less], and questions to Communications@tpcbc.org no later than Thursday, May 7, 2020.
Please continue to check our website for updates regarding opportunities to serve, along with opportunities to study and fellowship together. Looking forward to meeting you around His Table in the morning, I remain …

TPCBC Ministry Updates April 24, 2020
His Grace Is Sufficient!
Are you discovering that this truth (2 Corinthians 12:9) applies to your current circumstances? It is by the grace of God that we are who we are, namely His people, and that we can do what He says to do. God has been faithful to us! So, by His grace, we declare that in the days ahead we will do greater works than in the past.
On Sunday, we plan once again to stream our 7:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services LIVE. Until then, please join us in prayer that the Lord will show forth His glory in a life-transforming way within each and every dwelling where Christ is exalted.

Our Family Life Ministry is requesting that we remember the following persons in prayer:
Bereavement:
Corporate Bible Study:
Tuesday Night Bible Study (for adults) will resume via ZOOM videoconference on April 28th from 7:40 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., when we plan to launch a study of The Red Sea Rules, with Pastor Robinson as the lead instructor. This in-depth study of Exodus 14 will offer ten proven strategies for facing and overcoming the enormous challenges that exist right now, as well as those that emerge in the future. The study will remind us that even in the midst of seemingly impossible situations--illness, marital strife, financial problems, or whatever obstacles Satan places in our path—God has a way to deliver us through it. Although The Bible will be our primary textbook, Robert Morgan’s The Red Sea Rules is a highly recommended as a resource. The book is available immediately in digital (or electronic) format from the following sources at a cost of $1.99:
The People’s Community Broadcast Network (TPCBN):
We are preparing to launch this ZOOM-based network on May 1st. The Network is being designed to include a wide range of opportunities for individual, family, and congregation-wide celebration, communication, and collaboration, including live and pre-recorded classes, meetings, special activities, and fellowship opportunities. As we gain experience with the Network, we expect to expand our capacity to share the love of Jesus with the community, the nation, and the world. An orientation session for persons who will host and/or identify content for ZOOM sessions is being scheduled for Monday, April 27th at 7:00 p.m.
Prayer:
We are making plans to pray more as a congregation. Besides implementing a 24-hour prayer schedule (to be addressed in a future update), we plan to begin “prayer walking” on the TPCBC campus hourly between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily starting on Monday, April 27th. You are invited to come to pray as you walk once through the campus. This might take approximately 15 minutes. As many as ten persons may be engaged in prayer walking during any given hour; and all should wear masks and maintain physical distancing. To help us adhere to a 10-person per hour guideline, we ask you to sign up in advance for a time to prayer walk. Just click on the following link and enter your contact information in the prayer-walk schedule: Prayer Walk
If you have any questions as you sign up online, please contact Sister Sheri Montgomery at smontgomery@tpcbc.org.

Community Engagement (Social Action):
Please click the following links for information concerning:
- A three-part series presentation entitled Undercounted: Young, Black, and Fed Up on the representation of African Americans in the Census

Looking forward to worshiping with you in the morning @ 7:45 am and/or 11:00 am, I remain...
His Servant and Yours,
Haywood A Robinson, III, Pastor
