TPCBC COVID-19 Update April 5, 2020
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24
As we settle into another weekend and enjoy the blessings of this new day, we are urged by the psalmist to rejoice. Yes, everybody rejoice! Raise a praise to the Lord, to the Lamb Who suffered to secure our salvation.
CELEBRATIONS Plan to join us in worship tomorrow, Sunday, April 5, 2020. We are streaming LIVE at 7:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Join us via our homepage, www.tpcbc.org, click ‘Worship Live; or via Facebook LIVE,.TPCBC Facebook live. On this Palm Sunday, we cry out as the crowds did that day, “Hosanna, Hosanna, blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord” (Ps. 118:25-26). Two thousand years have passed since those lyrics from Psalm 118 were chanted while Jesus rode from the Mount of Olives into Jerusalem. Still today, "Hosanna," which means “Save Now,” is the impassioned cry of those who know the salvific power that Christ Jesus is able to unleash to address any crisis. May we, the Church, like that raucous crowd raise high our excitement, exaltation and expectation amid the escalation of this epic global challenge. Our current circumstances did not allow for the distribution of palm branches this year. How about we just wave, raise and clap the two palms God gave us, to the glory of His name? |

CONSECRATION
In 2 Chronicles 7:14 we are given instructions for addressing disasters in the land. One of the keys is PRAYER. There are many ministries, families and individuals who have devoted themselves to praying through these challenging days. Pastors and congregations around the nation have consecrated Palm Sunday as A National Day of Prayer, kicking off and entire Week of Prayer. Our friend, Bishop Ralph Martino also has called on the Body of Christ to consecrate a Fast unto the Lord for the lifting of the coronavirus, which was already nailed to the cross on Calvary. Our Governor has proclaimed Sunday @ Noon - April 5, 2020 as A MOMENT OF PRAYER AND REFLECTION in Maryland. @ noon However you choose, make this week a special week of Holy Consecration.
CAUTIONS
As we seek to comply with the recommendations and requirements of health and governmental authorities, during the week of April 6-11 our campus on Norwood Road will remain closed. However, staff will be available to serve you from home. As you have need, call the same number that you’ve called in the past (301-384-2601) and you should be assisted as usual. In anticipation that our free movement may become more restricted in the State of Maryland, be sure to secure enough essential supplies that will sustain you for a couple of weeks.
CONFINEMENT
Last week, we shared some WORSHIP TIPS prepared by our friend, Bishop Dwayne Debnam and the Morning Star Baptist Church Family (Catonsville, MD). The CONFINEMENT TIPS attached were prepared by our friend, Dr. Emory Berry, Jr. and the Greenforest Community Baptist Church Family (Atlanta, GA). I hope you found them helpful.
CONDOLENCES
Please pray for our following members during their time of bereavement:
CONFIDENCES
If we return our thoughts to Psalm 118, we are reminded, both in its opening and closing lines, why, even in the midst of difficult and alarming circumstances, we should rejoice each new day. Practice rehearsing these words on a daily basis: “O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good: for is mercy endureth forever (vv. 1, 29 KJV).
Looking forward to a joyous time of “Palms-Raised” Worship in the morning, I remain
His Servant and Yours,

COMMUNION
On Sunday April 5th it will be my privilege to lead our worshipping community in an In-Home Communion Observance. Should you choose to join us in observing the Lord’s Supper from your worshiping location, please keep the following in mind:
- Set aside some bread (crackers, etc.) on a plate and cut it into bite-size pieces.
- Set aside any fruit juice or fruit drink.
- Remember, whatever you use for the drink and bread, they are sacred symbols of our Lord’s broken body and shed blood. They represent His sacrifice, through which we have our great salvation.
- We will pray over the elements that you use, then take each element separately, together.
- Remember that Communion is reserved for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. This means all participants must have trusted Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior. As we approach tomorrow’s Communion Service, let each one of us pray and ask God’s forgiveness for sins in our lives. The confession of sin is essential to our proper approach to the Lord’s Table (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10, I Corinthians 11:23-29, 1 John 1:9).

Greetings in the Name that Shelters us in place, no matter the storm, Jesus, the Christ!!
One of the great hymns of the Church contains these lyrics, “Here, I raise my Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I’ve come.” This phrase is particularly beautiful and meaningful today, isn’t it? It’s only by the help of the Lord that we’re witnessing another weekend, still blessed with “a reasonable portion of our health and strength,” (as our more seasoned saints would say). Here are our updates:

As mentioned before, the early church, in a time crisis, prayed, praised God and pooled resources so that Christ’s message was demonstrated, such that thousands of people were supported and saved (Acts, chapters 2 and 4). We’re grateful for the gifts you offered as part of your worship experience on last week. As mentioned before, your faithful giving of tithes and offerings is essential for us to remain sufficiently staffed to serve and resourced to respond to the unprecedented needs we anticipate. In need of assistance? We have been informed by reliable sources that if you’re having problems with your rent, mortgage, or utility bills, it is very likely that you can receive some forbearance. Contact your service provider to see if an adjustment in payment terms can be arranged. Many companies are demonstrating sensitivity and flexibility. We’ve been informed that the utility companies will not disrupt any of your services. If after taking these steps, you still are in need of assistance, please contact one of your Tribal Deacons or Deaconesses.
If you have any family members, friends, or someone you know who is a US Citizen and having difficulties getting a flight back home here in the US, please have them reach out to Andrew Donlon at Andrew.Donlon@mail.house.gov. It does not matter where they are or where they live in the US.

CONFIDENCES
“There is a Name I love to hear; I love to sing its worth.” Remember that song? As Proverbs 18:10, we have a Name that is a shelter for us. That Name is JESUS! We find security and serenity when we “shelter in place” in that strong Name. I encourage you, when you sense any anxiety rising, call that Name. As Todd Dulaney sings, “things happen when I call that Name! Demons tremble when I call that Name!” As you go through this week, claim your rightful protection, provision and peace through the chain-breaking Name of Jesus, the Christ!!

TPCBC COVID-19 Update March 23, 2020
Grace and Peace to you through the abiding presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Here we are at the start of another week, safe and sound. Despite the many challenges, changes and closures during the past week, God has maintained His faithful watch over us. He is so worthy of our worship and praise.
CELEBRATIONS
We praise God for a glorious day of worship at both services with a strong streaming presence. We stand ready and poised to now take on the charge and challenge to Re-Think Church. On Tuesday, March 24, we invite everyone to join us for corporate prayer from 6:30 pm to 7:30 on our prayer line. The phone number is 202.800.7729. Join us as we bombard God’s throne for our nation, our families, our communities during this pandemic.
CONTRIBUTIONS
Beloved, there’s nothing ordinary about this crisis. Neither is there anything ordinary about Christ’s Church. No, the Church is evidence of God’s extraordinary presence in the world. Both believers and unbelievers will look to the Church for assistance as this pandemic persists. We must seize this evangelistic moment to demonstrate the supernatural, sacrificial love of God for His world. Consequently, your faithful giving of tithes and offerings is essential for us to remain sufficiently staffed to serve and resourced to respond to the unprecedented needs we anticipate. The early church, in a time crisis, prayed, praised God and pooled resources so that Christ’s message was demonstrated, such that thousands of people were supported and saved (Acts, chapters 2 and 4). CONNECTIONS
Because we are so isolated at this time, let’s be very intentional about connecting with others and reminding one another that we need not feel alone nor afraid. Let’s see every means of technology that enables and enhances our connectivity. Like many other ministries and organizations, we’re exploring other ways in which we can foster faith, hope and love.
CAUTIONS
As we seek to comply with the recommendations and requirements of health and governmental authorities, during the week of March 23-28 our campus on Norwood Road will be closed. However, staff will be available to serve you from home. As you have need, call the same number that you’ve called in the past (301.384.2601) and you should be assisted as usual. In anticipation that our free movement may become more restricted in the State of Maryland, be sure to secure enough essential supplies that will sustain you for a couple of weeks.
CONFIDENCES
In closing, I’m reminded in Psalm 46:1 that God is our refuge and strength. He is our very present help in trouble. The psalmist goes on to say, “Therefore, we will not fear”(v.2). Fear is real and very human. I encourage you to allow promises like these to fuel your faith (Matt. 8:26). We also have confidence that God’s is causing everything to work out for our good (Romans 8:28). His eye is still on the sparrow. Lets’ keep our eyes on Him (2 Chronicles 20:12c; Heb. 12:2).

Please click here for the Emergency Closure Meals Service for Montgomery County Public Schools
Greetings in the Strong Name of Jesus Christ!
This missive is sent after considerable consultations and review by a broad cross-section of members representing various backgrounds (e.g. medical, counseling, education, age). In light of the growing concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19) and its impact upon our ministry in the coming days several questions are addressed below. Because changes are taking place daily, please check our website (www.tpcbc.org) periodically for updated information. We are committed to doing everything we can to provide a safe environment for our church family and surrounding community.
Is TPCBC gathering this Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th?
All activities have been cancelled on March 14, 2020, including Saturday evening worship.
Virtual Worship Service on Sunday, March 15, 2020
Consequently, TPCBC transportation ministry will not be in operation on March 15th.
IMPACT Sunday plans have been postponed.
No Sunday School on March 15th
Will TPCBC campus be open for regularly scheduled activities on weekdays?
Yes. Currently, there are no plans to alter our hours of operation during the week. However, a decision may be made to close buildings for cleaning purposes. Advance notice of closures will be provided. Ministries are welcome to utilize the space as they would under normal circumstances; however, ministry leaders should use discretion in deciding whether to meet in person. Some cancellations already have been made. Please contact the church to confirm that a particular activity will be held.
Should people come to TPCBC if they feel sickly?
No. While we always want you to feel welcome at TPCBC, we offer this advice for your consideration: If you are feeling sickly, have a chronic disease, or even a fever, the best way to love your neighbor and yourself is by staying home!
What is happening with outreach efforts like Generation One?
As of the present, only the following groups have informed us of schedule changes:
Will home-based small groups meet?
Small groups will continue to meet at the discretion of their facilitators.
Will we host Sunday School and Bible Study in the future?
Instructors have a variety of options for convening their classes, both onsite and online. Your instructor will notify you regarding how to access the course.
What precautions can people take when they come to TPCBC campus?
We encourage everyone to take certain steps to protect themselves and others from the spread of coronavirus, including:
What precautions is TPCBC taking to make its gatherings as safe as possible?
TPCBC is taking extra cleaning precautions at this time. Generally, these include:
Additionally, in our Nursery and Kids Connection areas, after each gathering our volunteers sterilize various surfaces used by our children. We will continue to follow our standard health protocols, not admitting any child with an elevated temperature (above 99.6 F). A child must also be fever free for 24 hours before coming to Nursery or Kids Connection. Parents can help us by closely monitoring their children for any symptoms and being understanding if we feel we cannot accept their kids into these programs due to health concerns.
What about TPCBC short-term mission trips?
Our Missions Ministry is continually consulting various sources of information, including our ministry partners. Based upon this information, we are making determinations concerning any need to adjust, postpone, or cancel trips. At the same time, we are encouraging individuals involved in our missional efforts prayerfully to consider such decision to travel through consultation with medical professionals, as appropriate. For more detailed, up-to-date information on TPCBC short-term mission trips in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19), please email Missions@TPCBC.org.
How can I better understand the coronavirus (COVID-19)?
Coronavirus is a type of virus that causes respiratory illness — an infection of the airways and lungs. COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus. It is part of the same family of coronaviruses that includes the common cold. The coronavirus outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Since then, the virus has spread to other countries.
The most common early symptoms appear between 2 and 14 days after infection. Symptoms can be mild to severe. They include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention. Most people recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
Like many other viruses, the coronavirus (COVID-19) seems to spread from person-to-person through a cough, sneeze, or kiss. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that the risk in the U.S. is still low. They will update this status regularly on their website at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus. You can also find more information from the World Health Organization.
How should I respond spiritually to the coronavirus (COVID-19)?
The coronavirus (COVID-19) is yet one more reminder that we live in a fallen world of sickness, sin, suffering, and death. Ultimately, none of us are immune to any of these things. But that’s why the gospel is such good news. God has not left us alone in this world of sickness, sin, suffering, and death. He has come to us in the person of Jesus. The greatest news in all the world is that Jesus lived a life with no sin, died on a cross to pay the price for our sin, and rose from the grave in victory over sin and death. Now anyone anywhere who turns from their sin and trusts in Jesus will be forgiven of all their sin and restored to relationship with God forever. That means that through Jesus, we never have to fear sickness or death because we know we have eternal life with God.
If you do not know that you have eternal life with God, we urge you to put your faith in Jesus. And if you do know that you have eternal life with God, we urge you to share your faith in Jesus with others. Times like these remind us all of the fragility of life and the inevitability of death. So let’s spread the greatest news that death has been defeated and eternal life is available to all who trust in Jesus.
In addition to trusting in Jesus and sharing about Jesus with others, here are some other ways you can respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19):
Reflect often on the brevity of life, the urgency of eternity, and the beauty of the gospel.
- Worship Live. Members and guests will be able to worship with us via our Live-Streaming at 7:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. by clicking on the “Worship Live” tab on the church’s website. Only key ministry personnel/leaders will be expected to assemble on campus for each service. Your ministry leader will contact if your presence is required.
Consequently, TPCBC transportation ministry will not be in operation on March 15th.
- On Demand Viewing. These services also will be available for viewing on our YouTube channel soon.
- Offerings. Like singing and praying, giving is essential to worship. You are encouraged to use the “Give” tab on our website to present your offering to the Lord during the worship service. Alternatively, you may bring or mail your gift to the church building during the services or during the week.
- Generation One - suspended through the end of March
- Boy Scouts - suspended through the end of April
Will home-based small groups meet?
Small groups will continue to meet at the discretion of their facilitators.
Will we host Sunday School and Bible Study in the future?
Instructors have a variety of options for convening their classes, both onsite and online. Your instructor will notify you regarding how to access the course.
What precautions can people take when they come to TPCBC campus?
We encourage everyone to take certain steps to protect themselves and others from the spread of coronavirus, including:
- Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Using hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
- Not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
- Staying home if you are sick.
- Covering your cough or sneeze.
- Disinfecting objects and surfaces regularly.
- Consider creative interactions (like elbow bumping instead of hand shaking).
What precautions is TPCBC taking to make its gatherings as safe as possible?
TPCBC is taking extra cleaning precautions at this time. Generally, these include:
- Wiping down all common area touchpoints (e.g., doors, light switches, countertops, etc.) throughout the day with an EPA certified disinfectant.
- Placing additional hand sanitizers in common areas throughout the buildings.
- Performing added in-depth cleaning of our facilities on a regular basis. These deep cleanings likely will involve periodic closing of TPCBC buildings on certain weekdays. We will include all information about scheduled closures on our webpage and church voicemail greetings (301-384-2601).
- Trust in God as the good and sovereign Creator and Sustainer of life upon whom we all depend.
- Pray for mercy for the sick, strength for doctors, insight for researchers, and wisdom for officials.
- Look for opportunities to love and care for others, whether they are sick, isolated, marginalized, poor, or oppressed.
- Avoid every semblance of prejudice or racism. In light of the origination of this virus in Asia, it has been grievous to see a rise in racist incidents against the Asian community. So just as we do in any circumstance, guard against all prejudice or racism in your thoughts, your words, and your actions.
- Even if we are unable to gather at certain times, stay closely connected to the church family. Gather with smaller groups as appropriate, and participate in worship gatherings online if that’s the only option.
- Continue to faithfully to give financial offerings online HERE or by mail so that the ministry of the church thrives all the more in the midst of difficult days.
Reflect often on the brevity of life, the urgency of eternity, and the beauty of the gospel.
